Our Story

This Society was inaugurated on the 09th October 1920 when a group of distinguished people met to form a Buddhist Social Service organisation for the purpose of taking forward the vision of Ms. Mallika Hewavitharana. This noble lady who was full of kindness and compassion wished to ensure that old and destitute women would have a roof over their heads and be cared for until their passing.  The Society was initially named the ‘Mallika Anatha Nivasa Samithiya’ and later the name was changed to ‘Mallika Nivasa Samithiya’.   Ms. Hewavitharana had the fullest support of her son Dr. C A Hewavitharana in this venture.
